MARKET DRAYTON TOWN 0 SHIFNAL TOWN 2
Midland Football League, Premier Division
Friday 28 October 2022
A much-improved performance from Shifnal after two successive defeats, against a Drayton side that worked hard and kept trying until the final whistle. The visitors made a good start, pressing from the off and not allowing their hosts to settle on the ball. The opening goal came in the 14th minute, when Keanu Cooper won the ball in midfield and surged forward before passing inside for KANE LEWIS, who drove into the bottom corner from an angle. There was an element of fortune about the second goal after 31 minutes. The ball was played out to KYREN HAMILTON on the left, and he turned inside a defender before shooting for goal, the ball taking a wicked deflection into the opposite corner. The closest the hosts came to a goal came on 36 minutes when former Shifnal man Harvey Lewis’ volley from 20 yards struck the post and came out to Joel Jones, who netted, only to be denied by an assistant’s offside flag.
Shifnal started the second half brightly, and Tyrone Ofori made a fine run through the middle in the 47th minute, only for his shot from the edge of the penalty area to pass just the wrong side of the post. A mazy run by substitute Luke Walsh after 55 minutes ended with his angled shot skimming the crossbar, as the visitors strove to extend their lead. Shifnal were again unlucky on 76 minutes, when Walsh passed to Jeremy Abbey, whose low 18-yard drive beat George Scott and came back off the upright. Rune Corinaldi had a good chance for the home side as the game moved into stoppage time, but he fired wide from 20 yards. The last action of the game 3 minutes into time added on saw Walsh cut in past a defender and shoot from 20 yards, Scott superbly diving to his left to turn the ball for a corner.
