Despite looking the better side almost from the off, it took Shifnal 79 minutes to grab the all-important second goal to enable their supporters to breathe more easily. Town keeper Sheridan Martinez had his easiest game of the season, as the hosts were unable to manage a shot on target during the entire game. Shifnal full-back Josh Green brought a good save from Joe Salisbury from his 25-yard free-kick in the 7th minute. Clear-cut chances were few and far between, but from one such chance, Town took the lead on the half-hour. Some good inter-passing between Keanu Cooper and MIKEY NELSON culminated in the latter driving into the bottom corner of the net from 20 yards. The visitors had a good chance to double their lead 2 minutes before the interval, when Harvey Lewis’ cross from the left was knocked down by Nelson for Cooper, but his shot from the edge of the penalty area was straight at Salisbury.
The second period was similar to the first, with Shifnal dominating the play. A free-kick from Green was headed against the crossbar by Emem Jones on 65 minutes. 2 minutes later, Green and Jeremy Abbey played a one-two, Green’s 25-yard shot being turned round the post by the home keeper. The much-needed second goal came after 79 minutes, when Harvey Lewis’ superbly weighted through ball picked out substitute TOM HILL, who nonchalantly guided the ball past Salisbury. Town ensured their passage into the first round proper of the competition a minute into stoppage time. Substitute Ashley Brown played the ball down the left for fellow substitute Tyrone Ofori, who pulled it back into the path of COOPER. He took the ball in his stride and netted from 12 yards.
