MATCH REPORT RACING CLUB WARWICK VS SHIFNAL TOWN

RACING CLUB WARWICK 2 SHIFNAL TOWN 1

Midland Football League, Premier Division

Saturday 15 October 2022

Shifnal came away pointless from a game that they should have won, although credit to Racing Club for sticking to their game plan and ultimately managing the game better. Town’s debutant keeper Adam Whitehouse made a good save after 6 minutes from Toby Scott’s 25-yard drive, before the visitors opened the scoring from a fine break down the right in the 11th minute. Mikey Nelson and Sam Griffiths combined well, and the latter’s wicked cross came off home defender RICARDO DUDLEY’s chest into the net, despite a valiant attempt by keeper Dan Crane to prevent the goal. The equaliser came on 25 minutes as a result of poor defending from a corner, ARCHIE HAMP driving home from 15 yards. 3 minutes later, the visitors came within a whisker of regaining their lead when Tom Hill’s volley from Nelson’s excellent cross was inches wide of the near post.

The winning goal came from the penalty spot in the 67th minute. Kane Lewis was adjudged to have fouled Chris Mayumba just inside the corner of the penalty area, and JAMES HANCOCKS made no mistake from 12 yards. 3 minutes later, a ball was played down the Warwick left for Josh Parsons, who cut in past Griffiths, but Whitehouse did well to turn his 20-yard effort round the upright. Town had a couple of chances to equalise before the final whistle. Hill chased down a through ball on 79 minutes and pulled it back for Nelson, but a defender made a good tackle as he was about to shoot. Then in the 85th minute, substitute Luke Walsh’s cross was spilled towards his own goal by Crane, but a defender was on hand to clear off the line.
