This was the proverbial game of two halves, as Shifnal took the game to their visitors for most of the first 45 minutes, but were pegged back for long periods after the break. Town should have taken the lead after only 2 minutes, when Jack Kelly put Tyrone Ofori in, but his first touch let him down and his hurried shot was wide. They did take the lead in the 16th minute when Josh Green’s corner found JEREMY ABBEY unmarked, and he stooped to head past Josh Bishop. Ofori was set up again in the 21st minute with a fine through ball, but he fired a foot over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area. Abbey was close again after 28 minutes when Green’s quickly-taken free-kick fell to him 20 yards out, but his fierce shot slammed against the crossbar. Another Green corner produced the second goal on 38 minutes, ABBEY beating Bishop with a near-post header.
Swifts started the second half with much more purpose, and Ben Tilbury forced Adam Whitehouse into his first save in the 46th minute. The visitors continued to press, with the benefit of a tail wind, but the Town defence allowed them very few chances. Indeed, Ofori was close to extending Town’s lead on the hour as Town broke quickly, but Bishop turned his shot round for a corner. Things began to look ominous for the home side when the ever-dangerous LEE CHILTON netted direct from a corner after 74 minutes. This goal encouraged Swifts to throw everything into trying to grab the equaliser, but the home defence held firm for maximum points.
