SHIFNAL TOWN VS BEWDLEY TOWN Match report

SHIFNAL TOWN 3 BEWDLEY TOWN 0

J W Hunt Cup, Round 2

Tuesday 6 December 2022

This was a comfortable victory for Shifnal against a Bewdley side that worked hard, but rarely troubled Adam Whitehouse in the Shifnal goal. The opening goal came in the 18th minute when Ashley Brown fed Jack Kelly on the left. He played the ball inside for MAX CHIMENES, who curled the ball beautifully inside the post from the edge of the penalty area. 2 minutes later, Jeremy Abbey passed inside for Tom Hill, but his first-time shot from 20 yards was just over the crossbar. 2 minutes further on, Lewis Jarman crossed from the right for Abbey, whose header was turned over the crossbar by Haydn Whitcombe. Shifnal pressure inevitably produced a second goal a minute before the break. Abbey’s superb cross was controlled by LUKE WALSH, who then turned and fired into the bottom corner of the net from 15 yards.

The visitors should have prevented the third goal after 55 minutes. Chimenes’ pass should have been cut out by a defender, but he missed his kick, allowing HILL to slot home from 15 yards. It looked odds on a fourth goal on 71 minutes when Hill picked out Chimenes on the left, who passed inside for Jarman. His 20-yard shot was too strong for Whitcombe to hold, but Hill’s follow-up was too high. Substitute Tyrone Ofori came close 2 minutes before the end when he received the ball from Walsh, but his shot was half-blocked by a defender and the ball went for a corner. The visitors’ best chance of the game came a minute into time added on by the referee, Moussa Koita heading over from Max Morris’ cross.
