Shifnal eased their way into the next round of the competition on penalties, after being frustrated by a hard-working Drayton side that challenged for every ball. The hosts came very close to taking the lead after 10 minutes, when Josh Green made an overlap run on the right and cut in, before firing in a low shot which keeper Dominic Smith fumbled for a corner. Jack Kelly’s corner was met by Tyrone Ofori, but Smith pushed his shot aside. Luke Walsh crossed the ball back into the area, but Ofori’s header was narrowly wide of the far post. As both sides tried to gain the ascendancy, it was Shifnal that created the next chance on goal in the 24th minute. A long ball from keeper Sheridan Martinez deceived a Drayton defender, and Ofori was inches wide with his overhead kick from just inside the penalty area.

Chances were very few and far between after the break, although a fine through ball from Walsh found Keanu Cooper midway through the half, but Cooper’s touch let him down. The hosts were awarded a penalty on 77 minutes, when a visiting defender handled in the area, but Kelly fired over the crossbar from 12 yards. The nearest the visitors came to troubling Martinez was a minute before the final whistle, when substitute Callum Knowles curled a shot from 25 yards a yard wide of the far post.

And so the game went to penalty kicks, Shifnal holding their nerves to win 4-3.
